Update on Marantz
Sooo, On Wednesday August the 2nd, I received my Marantz 2235 back via UPS. I had completely given up on it ever seeing it again, but here it was, and I was astonished at how nice it looked and how good it sounded. If I had known two and a half years ago, this stereo would have turned out as nice as it did, and if Brent had been upfront about how long it would take, I would have sent it to him and gladly waited on it. I have seen other people make similar comments and always wondered what made them change their minds. He may not be the best communicator and he definitely has time management issues, but when it comes to vintage audio, he truly is a talented guy. Brent, if you are reading this, the job you did on my receiver was nothing short of a miracle in my mind. Be upfront with people about how long it will take to get their equipment back, and they will not be disappointed. I feel like I had nothing but bad things to say about Brent for the last two and a half years. I wanted everyone to know the ending of this story. I hope all of you who have visited will keep working with Brent to get your equipment back. I do think he wants to get it back to you. If you do, I think it will be worth your time and effort, I also think you will be astounded at how nice it turns out. Brent, work through these units you have taken in and make others believers.
I was seeking to get my Marantz Stereo Receiver re-capped. It stopped working and I wanted to do what is called a recap of the board where a service technician replaces all the components. I searched for someone for several weeks. I talked to other vendors. Most were backed up and said it would take them up to a year to start. I found Brent Huskins on Ebay out of Burleson, Texas, who said he could have the receiver back to me in about 3 months. I was going to purchase his services through Ebay but I wanted to talk to him to find out more about the extent of his re-cap service. I reached out to him and he called me directly. He mentioned he would take $50 off the price if I would just deal directly with him instead of going through Ebay. I should have known better but I did it anyway. I sent him money directly to his Square account and shipped my receiver to his house.
On April 8th 2023 that will have been 2 years ago. I have texted him constantly and he keeps making excuses. I have asked him to send the receiver back and refund my money, he won't do that. I have run across many other people he has done this to. At this point, I would be happy to get the receiver returned to me.
If you quickly search Brent or Crossed Paths Vintage, most of what you initially see will be positive. He has all positive reviews on Ebay. However, if you dig a little deeper, you will start to see the truth. I hope this website will begin to pop up on those initial searches before people have lost their equipment/money and it's to late. On the Text Messages page I am including some of the conversations between he and I. I will also include links where others are talking about being taken by Brent. Brent lives in Burleson, Texas and runs this "business" from his home.
Steve's Experience.
My story is similar to yours. I had a Yamaha CA-1000 (1974) that stopped working, would not power on. I looked online for a repair shop but there are none near me. I came across Crossed Paths Vintage on Ebay, and Brent got right back to me telling me how he has repaired hundreds and loves to fix them, it would not take over 90 days to get it back, etc… Well long story short, I shipped it on November 14th 2022 and still haven't received it back.
After checking more into his background I found as you did, Brent uses sly tactics to put you off, week here, few weeks there then he just stops answering the phone, texts and emails. So far I have filed complaints with the BBB, The Credit card company I paid with, The office of consumer protection in TEXAS, Federal Trade Commission, EBAY and am now working with a legal firm, my local Sheriff’s office and the Johnson County Sheriff’s office who has jurisdiction over where his office/house is. I am not hopeful that I will ever see the amplifier again as he has had so much time to sell it, but I do hope to help put him out of business and initiate any criminal and civil penalties I can.
UPDATE! If you have had a similar experience with Brent Huskins, Please follow this link and send a message to this person on Ebay telling them how much money and equipment Brent has taken and not returned to you. If he can find enough victims maybe he can get Ebay and law enforcement to respond.
